The first LENs outside Europe
The first Australian LENs region is in development in the Hunter and Mid-North Coast region of New South Wales. In partnership with SEAOAK Consulting and Macka’s Australian Black Angus Beef, LENs will bring together farm businesses and interested organisations from a range of sectors to deliver climate change mitigation and environmental benefits across the landscape.
The focus will be on:
- Livestock industry – predominantly beef, dairy. Potential for some viticulture, arable and horticulture.
- Farm productivity and resilience to drought. Greenhouse gas reductions and removals, water quality improvement, biodiversity.
The AU$500,000 project is part of the Government of New South Wales Low Carbon Landscapes Grant Program, which aims to support the development of projects that drive high quality carbon abatement in the primary industries and land sector.
Geographies of interest are the Hunter Valley, Mid North Coast regions in New South Wales. Focused around three catchments zones
- Hunter – Williams River Catchment
- Manning River Catchment
- Karua River and Great Lakes Catchments
The specific project area will evolve over time in response to funding partner and farmer interest.
We are currently engaging with potential funding organisations, farmers and local stakeholders and working towards trades in 2027.
