Leven programme bolsters team with new Scotland Programme Manager

1st July 2025

Following the official launch of Landscape Enterprise Networks (LENs) in the Leven catchment area of Scotland, the programme has now appointed its first Senior Programme Manager for the region.

Tom Brown has joined LENs to drive the expansion of Landscape Enterprise Networks (LENs) in Scotland. He is joining at a pivotal time to lead and manage the programme as it begins to scale in Leven and beyond.

Tom will focus on building the national and regional networks that are crucial to Leven LENs’ success. Beyond the first Scottish LENs, a key focus will be driving the successful expansion of the overall programme in Scotland, bringing new regions to the ‘investment-ready’ stage and that our work is aligned with national policy developments.

Before joining LENs, Tom was a senior consultant in 3Keel’s Climate, Nature and Resources business unit. He specialised in climate mitigation, risk mapping, and adaptation with a focus on agricultural supply chains. Tom has worked with a range of land sector organisations, from Tesco and Costa to WWF and Defra, engaging stakeholders from across the food supply chain to drive climate action. He has a First-Class Honours Degree in Theoretical Physics from the University of Edinburgh, with a focus on Atmospheric and Climate Physics.

The first live trading year for Leven LENs was announced on 19 June at the Royal Highland Show. In collaboration with The Forth Rivers Trust and with support from Diageo, SSEN (Distribution) and Perth & Kinross Council, the programme is set to support between 10-15 farms in this first year, who will implement a wide range of regenerative practices to deliver multiple benefits including increased soil fertility, reductions in on-farm greenhouse gas emissions, and improving habitat for farmland wildlife. Farmers choose which practices will work best on their farms and will include reduced cultivation systems, improving nutrient use efficiency, keeping soils covered, creating new hedgerows, and wildflower margins.

The project should help reduce agricultural runoff into Loch Leven, Scotland’s largest lowland loch and important breeding site for waterfowl and birds.

Tom Brown said: “I’ve been impressed by LENs since the early days and it’s great to come into the team at a time when the pace is picking up, we’re seeing the proven, measured impact of our work on the ground and we can forge ahead and bring in new partners, funders and farmers to expand further into Scotland.”

Donald Lunan, LENs CEO, said: “With our sixth LENs region now underway and more in the pipeline, we are beginning to achieve impact at scale. It’s thanks to the vision of food and drink companies like Diageo, together with utilities and local councils, that we’re securing new regions so that we can deliver impact in local landscapes.”
