LENs partners with Oxbury Transition Facility to leverage favourable funding for LENs farmers

1 October 2025

LENs has partnered with the Oxbury Transition Facility, to give LENs farmers access to finance for the transition to regenerative agriculture.

Oxbury is the only UK bank dedicated to the rural economy and was established in 2021. The Oxbury Transition Facility is the first borrowing agreement of its kind for UK farming businesses. It financially incentivises and rewards those who are transitioning – or planning to transition – to farming methods that reduce carbon emissions and improve soil health. It does so by providing flexible funding to help farmers manage cash flow and capital needs as they transition to lower-carbon, more resilient farming systems.

The new partnership is solely for the benefit of farmers. LENs is not involved in contracts between farmers and the bank, and receives no financial benefit from the bank. LENs farmers will be able to apply for the Oxbury Transition Facility by demonstrating their participation (using their most recent LENs contract as proof).

Nick Evans, Managing Director of Oxbury said: “The new Oxbury partnership with Landscape Enterprise Networks  (LENs) makes it easier for farmers to get both the right financial product and right amount of finance they need to make real changes on the ground. By linking LENs projects directly with Oxbury’s Transition Facility, we are helping farmers invest with confidence in improvements that benefit soil, water and biodiversity. For supply chain businesses, it means the sustainability targets they rely on are supported by both practical action and backed by finance. Oxbury is proud to be leading the way in giving farmers the tools and funding to deliver this lasting change.”

Evans added: “By linking LENs projects with Oxbury’s Transition Facility, we’re giving farmers fast access to finance to deliver real improvements — and giving supply chains confidence those changes will happen.”

What can the Oxbury Transition Facility do for farmers?

Depending on where a farmer is in the transition to regenerative agriculture, there are two options:

  • Exploring and planning: a facility of up to two years for those in the early stages of change
  • Implementing and advancing: a facility of up to six years for those actively transitioning and expanding their plans

Beyond access to finance, the Oxbury Transition Facility helps farmers measure and demonstrate the impact of their changes. It includes:

  • Carbon footprints: conducted at the outset and throughout the transition to track emissions reductions
  • Earth observation: in partnership with Downforce Technologies, Oxbury uses advanced satellite data and analytics to calculate and monitor improvements in soil organic carbon (SOC) levels
  • Data sharing: evidence of sustainable improvements can be shared with supply chain partners and government bodies to demonstrate positive environmental outcomes

Donald Lunan, CEO of LENs, welcomed the partnership, saying: “Everyone involved in LENs recognises that farmers cannot be expected to shoulder the financial burden of transitioning to regenerative agriculture. Oxbury’s outlook is the same and I hope plenty of LENs farmers will benefit from both the favourable financing and the additional support.”
